Summary

Performs complex research under the general direction of the Principal Investigator. Although training in all areas will be provided, experience with molecular biology is expected. Multitasks and manages experiments, lab organization, and general lab supplies. Should be self-motivated to identify and solve lab-related issues that arise.  Research in the Hodges lab focuses on altered epigenetic function in cancer and other diseases. We use interdisciplinary approaches, including epigenomics, live-cell super-resolution imaging, genome editing, and chemical biology, to understand epigenetic systems in disease settings. Our research is especially focused on new technologies, for example, improving cell-culture tumor models, as well as single-cell and single-molecule methods.

Job Duties

  • Contributes to a vibrant, friendly, and energetic laboratory environment.
  • Interacts with others via effective verbal and written communication.
  • May utilize the following laboratory techniques: DNA and plasmid preparation, Western blotting, co-immunoprecipitation, qRT-PCR, lentivirus preparation, live-cell microscopy, 3D organoid culture, tissue staining, flow cytometry, multi-well plate assays, and others.
  • Coordinates with vendors, laboratory members, and other BCM staff to place and receive purchases.
  • Monitors arrival, organization, and use of laboratory supplies to manage inventory.
  • Plans, directs and conducts research experiments; evaluates and analyzes data.
  • Develops research techniques and performs applications required for specific research projects.
  • Documents results of experiments and reports to principal investigators.
  • May supervise, schedule and coordinate the activities of less experienced research staff.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Basic Science or a related field.  Experience in lieu of degree will not be accepted.
  • Three years of relevant experience typically as a Research Assistant, Research Technician or Postdoctoral Fellow/Associate.
