Schedule:  Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Work Location:  Houston, TX
Salary Range:  Hiring up to $80,000

Summary

The Research Associate will perform independent research on pediatric brain tumors. The scientist will have experience with computational biology and wet lab techniques, and will be able to guide and supervise the work of other staff and trainees in the lab. The ideal candidate must have a solid knowledge of the biological principles driving brain tumors, and proven experience with implementation of bioinformatics (single-cell genomics, epigenomic platforms, mutational analyses) and wet lab (basic biochemistry, work with primary cultures) platforms.

Job Duties

  • Integrate several data types (including, for instance, single-cell transcriptomic and epigenomic data) to generate hypotheses that will be tested functionally, using tumor models. For instance, the scientist may discover a putative important role for a gene, and will follow up with functional experiments that will test whether removing/turning off that gene has any effects on behavior and phenotypes of cancer models.
  • Supervise daily activities of trainees (graduate students, postdoctoral fellows) and staff (lab technicians).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Basic Science or a related field.  Experience in lieu of degree will not be accepted.
  • Three years of relevant experience typically as a Research Assistant, Research Technician or Postdoctoral Fellow/Associate.
