The St-Pierre Lab (www.stpierrelab.com; Twitter: @StPierreLab) develops novel tools to accelerate biomedical research. For example, we engineer and apply new protein-based fluorescent biosensors for imaging cellular activity, focusing on sensors for brain activity. We also develop optogenetic silencers, synthetic circuits to control protein expression, and new high-throughput methods to map phenotypes to genotypes. We are looking for a motivated, organized, and resourceful scientist with expertise in molecular cloning or synthetic biology to accelerate our efforts to build and disseminate these tools of broad utility. The ability to properly document results is critical for this position. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop cutting-edge molecular technologies, learn new skills, and be part of an enjoyable workplace.

Job Duties

  • Use molecular biology techniques for assembling new gene expression vectors and constructing large mutagenesis libraries.
  • Transfect libraries in mammalian cells
  • Evaluate the expression and function of new constructs by microscopy, cytometry (FACS), or both.
  • Disseminate our tools to collaborating laboratories and follow up to get feedback/data.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
  • Three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Ability to routinely clone into plasmid vectors, including experience with: primer design, PCR, gel extraction, transformation, and miniprepping.
  • Ability to stitch two or more DNA fragments in the same vector, for example via overlap PCR, In-Fusion, or Gibson Assembly.
