Title:  Research Assistant II

Job Duties

  • Conduct research projects, both independently and with others.
  • Purchase, setting up, and maintaining equipment necessary to conduct research.
  • Teach techniques, procedures, and experimental design to other members of the lab. 
  • Communicate research results during our group meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field. 
  • Three years of relevant experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with 1 year of experience.
  • Ability to routinely clone genes into plasmid vectors. Design primers, perform PCR, gel extraction, transform DNA in bacteria, and miniprep plasmids from bacterial cultures.
  • Ability to stitch two or more DNA fragments in the same vector, for example using overlap PCR, In-Fusion, or Gibson Assembly.
  • Ability to conduct whole-cell patch clamping of either cell lines (e.g., HEK293) *or* neurons.
  • Ability to dissect rat cortical and/or hippocampal neurons.
