Summary
The Walker Lab in the Center for Precision Environmental Health is looking for an experienced individual to join the team. The Walker lab actively investigates gene x environment interactions and their role in diseases such as cancer, fibroids and NAFLD. The TSC2 tumor suppressor, and its role in cell signaling, has been one of the areas of interest for the lab. The laboratory utilizes several unique methodologies including biochemistry, genetics, mass spectrometry, imaging and other cell biology-based assays.
Job Duties
- Manages animal colonies that are being expanded. (Maintaining colony, preparing for and
completing animal studies on a daily basis). Preparing samples to send for genotyping. - Keeps detailed animal inventories that can be used by others at any moment.
- Coordinates with vendors, laboratory members, and other BCM staff to place and receive purchases.
- Plans, prepares, and completes experiments under general supervision of PI (such as
westerns and ChIP). - Develops research techniques and performs applications required for specific research projects.
- Documents results of experiments and reports to principal investigators.
- May train, schedule, and coordinate the activities of less experienced research staff.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
- Three years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in basic science or a related field.
