Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The Department of Otolaryngology’s Division of Research is seeking a Research Assistant II (RA II) to support the daily operations of clinical and translational research studies. This role is responsible for coordinating all aspects of assigned research protocols, including participant screening, enrollment, informed consent, and ongoing monitoring to ensure participant safety and protocol compliance. The RA II will maintain accurate and organized documentation, oversee data collection and entry, and ensure adherence to regulatory and institutional requirements. The position involves performing complex research activities that require developing and implementing study procedures, troubleshooting operational challenges, and contributing to the planning and execution of research projects. The RA II may also supervise limited project tasks as delegated by the Principal Investigator (PI), working within the general framework and study plans approved by the PI.

Job Duties

  • Plans, directs, and conducts research experiments.
  • Evaluates and analyzes data.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Documents results of experiments and reports to principal investigators.
  • Trains and orients less experienced research staff.
  • Defines problems and possible solutions.
  • Oversees the maintenance of lab equipment and environment.
  • May assign activities to less experienced research staff.
  • Sufficiently handles mice and carries out planned experiments, including intraperitoneal injections and routine mouse examinations.  
  • Performs nucleic acid extractions from cells for downstream experiments.
  • Performs cell culture, including the treatment of cells and harvesting cells for downstream experiments.
  • Follows established lab protocols and SOPs for molecular biology experiments.
  • Assist research scientists in ongoing projects and daily tasks.
  • Carries out procurement tasks and coordinates ordering.
  • Maintenance of lab equipment and calibration.
  • Maintaining inventory of lab supplies.  
  • Communicates with vendors to generate quotes and POs for lab purchases.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field. 
  • Three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in basic science or a related field.
