Summary

The Tubman Lab is seeking a Research Assistant to support execution, analysis, and reporting of research in support of lab goals and grant commitments. Dr. Tubman's laboratory examines infections and immune function in sickle cell disease. The Research Assistant will be responsible for facilitating the goals of the lab to advance knowledge, produce scholarship, and to meet the commitments of grants. This includes processing human samples and planning and executing experiments that use methods in molecular and cellular biology, flow cytometry, tissue culture, and other techniques and working to ensure smooth operations of the lab. May perform some assignments independently as discussed and approved by Principal Investigator.  The Research Assistant I will report directly to the PI, Dr. Tubman.

Job Duties

  • Select and determine appropriate research procedures
  • Monitor results, reports unusual outcomes and suggests modifications
  • Collect, enter and summarize data
  • Assist in the maintenance of lab equipment and supplies
  • Perform basic statistical data analysis
  • Prepare tables/charts/graphs for presentation and publication
  • Present at research laboratory meetings
  • Conduct literature searches and summarize information
  • Contribute to writing of manuscripts
  • Support the development and use of a departmental bank of biological samples
  • Work with local and distant partners to coordinate sample transfer and processing
  • May participate in the supervision of undergraduate and graduate level summer students

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
