Summary

Performs responsible research work in a fast-paced clinical lab that requires planning, completing, and occasionally supervising limited research projects in accordance with general plans approved by the supervisor. The research assistant will work with research coordinators, clinicians, and vendors to manage the daily activities and projects in the lab.

Job Purpose

Under general direction of senior research staff with minimal supervision, conducts activities to support research projects and exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices. The research assistant will manage the daily activities of the lab, including preparing supplies for multiple research studies, ensuring clinic spaces are set up for research visits, and processing samples as they are collected from research subjects. There will also be basic research projects, such as ELISA assay development and DNA isolation.

Job Duties
  • Performs research projects in accordance with general plans approved by supervisor.
  • Collects, evaluates, and interprets research data to provide needed information to other researchers.
  • Maintains and updates notebooks, records, and databases as needed.
  • Manages incoming samples and sample inventory.
  • Selects and determines appropriate research procedures for multiple studies.
  • Collaborates with researchers in various fields to learn new techniques for assay development and sample processing.
  • Conducts literature searches to stay abreast of new, updated protocols, and techniques.
  • Maintains clean laboratory, orders supplies to ensure sufficient inventory, and maintains lab equipment.
  • Complies with all Baylor policies, rules, regulations, codes and keeps up to date with required training.
  • Must have proficient computer skills and be able to communicate well with others.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education Required: Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
  • Experience Required: Two years of relevant experience.
