A research assistant position is available in Dr. Yi Zhu's laboratory in Children's Nutritional Research Center, Baylor College of Medicine. Our laboratory uses biochemistry, molecular biology, cell culture, imaging, and rodent physiology to understand adipose tissue gap junction and its relation to the whole-body metabolism.

Job Duties
  • Independently carry out cell culture and routine molecular biology procedures such as DNA, RNA, and protein isolation, qPCR, western blotting, ELISA, immunofluorescence staining, and cell culture with minimal amount of supervision.
  • Design and conduct research experiments.
  • Collect, compile and analyze data.
  • Conduct literature search and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Document and interpret results of experiments and reports to principal investigators.
  • May develop and modify computer programs.
  • Select and determine appropriate research procedures.
  • Oversee the maintenance of lab equipment and environment.
  • May assign activities to less experienced research staff.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education Required: Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
  • Experience Required: Two years of relevant experience.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration: None Required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in relevant area and two years of research experience
  • Peer-reviewed publication
