Job Purpose

The Westbrook Lab is seeking talented cell and molecular biologists to work in an interdisciplinary team environment on the discovery and development of new therapeutic strategies for cancer. As the project's key focus is on cancer, this position will involve engineering cancer cell lines to perturb the function of specific genes of interest and characterizing the consequences of these perturbations using a variety of assays to measure cell growth/death and other downstream phenotypes. In particular, this work will focus on understanding how cancer driver perturbations a) cause changes in the transcriptomic, proteomic, and epigenomic profiles of cells from various tissues and b) how these changes lead to tissue-specific, tumor-selective vulnerabilities that can be exploited as new therapeutic entry points.

Job Responsibilities
  • Experience with the following techniques: transfection/electroporation, DNA/RNA/protein extraction, western blot, qPCR, and standard subcloning (restriction digest based, Gateway, etc.).
  • Plan and execute experimental protocols to perturb (RNAi, CRISPR, over-expression, etc.) gene of interest function in a variety of cell lines.
  • Plan, execute and analyze experimental protocols to characterize the phenotypic and molecular consequences of gene of interest perturbation.
  • Design and conduct research experiments.
  • Conduct literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Document and interpret results of experiments and reports to principal investigators.
  • May develop and modify computer programs.
  • Select and determine appropriate research procedures.
  • Oversee the maintenance of lab equipment and environment.
  • May assign activities to less experienced research staff.
