Summary
Within Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), the Integrated Microscopy Core (IMC) is an advanced technology core designed to support researchers in the development, acquisition and image informatics of challenging and translational projects.The IMC is seeking to recruit a full time Research Assistant I (RA-I) to support imaging-based assays and train in microscopy experiments. The position would principally involve training users on new equipment and running experiments using previously-developed protocols, optimization of novel assay protocols, and imaging on the available instruments within the IMC. Teamwork, flexibility, multi-tasking, optimal record keeping and data sharing, strong communication (written/spoken) and interpersonal skills are all essential to a successful application. Prior experience with microscopy techniques is preferred; however, extensive training will be provided. Cell culture and basic molecular biology knowhow is essential. The candidate is expected to report on assigned projects to core leaders in a timely manner.
Job Duties
- Operate key instruments within the core (training will be provided) and become familiar with all systems in support of the full Core Team
- Document experimental procedures in precise details and placing all lab work details on the available departmental shared drive.
- Collect and compile imaging data
- Prepare reagents and solutions, and perform experimental work as directed by the Director and his senior associates.
- Troubleshoot problematic results with the Team
- Directly interact with all IMC personnel and report to the Director/Co-directors.
- Maintain core laboratory organization, monitor lab reagents and do ordering.
- Work to train users in instrument safety, and usage protocols under the guidance of the IMC team
- Perform other related job duties as assigned
- Participate in the outreach efforts of the IMC
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
- Two years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in biological science or equivalent.
