The Center for Precision Environmental Health (CPEH) is seeking a highly motivated individual to assist with the administrative functions of grant proposals and the life cycle of grants. Under the supervision of the Center Administrator, this position will be the main point of contact for pre- and post-award activities and programs including, but not limited to: successful submission of research grants; regular review, reconciliation, and projection of award finances; preparing adjustments and corrections to award budgets; preparing financial reports; and at the end of the award, ensuring all financial requirements have been met and closing out the award. This role requires regular interaction with and delivering high quality customer service to faculty members conducting sponsored research. Excellent communication skills and attention to detail are a must, as are adherence to quality standards and all relevant policies and award regulations.


The CPEH encourages and advocates for professional development, including participation in professional research administration organizations such as NCURA and is supportive of candidates seeking CRA certification.

Job Duties

  • Review announcements for special conditions/restrictions to ensure full compliance with sponsor guidelines and assist faculty with pre-award grant/contract proposals in BRAIN, ASSIST, proposal CENTRAL, etc.
  • Prepare, or review and approve, budget/budget justification and administrative sections of grant applications.
  • Review and reconcile award expenditures and budgets, working with Center Administrator and/or faculty to make adjustments, as necessary.
  • Project and forecast future award expenditures, including preparing budgets for Progress Reports.
  • Manage budget, account setup, reporting and compliance timelines through the life-cycle of the grant or contract.
  • Pre-review Effort Reporting in ERS and updates all effort changes in PEPT system.
  • In collaboration with the Sponsored Programs Office, draft sub-contracts, and other post-award documents/agreements for signature.
  • Prepare and update Other Support documents for faculty as needed.
  • Ensure faculty and grants are research compliant under IACUC, COI, RCR, etc. regulations
  • Communicate with PIs on a regular basis regarding budget projections, expense adjustments and revisions.
  • Assist with No Cost Extensions, Carryover, re-budgeting requests, changes in scope, and other changes to the award.
  • Elevate any concerns to the Center Administrator.
  • Assist with preparation of annual department budget.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.  Certified Research Administrator certification through the Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC) may substitute for the degree requirement.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree.
  • Financial reporting and Grants & Contracts experience.
