Summary

The Research Administration Associate implements administrative pre- and post-award grant and contract activities for the Cancer Center. Additionally, will manage all Cancer related grant submission which are determined to be institutionally limited - requiring Cancer Center internal review and selection and ultimate recommendation to college leadership. This position is critical for the management of an specialized internal process for these important cancer related limited submissions. This position reports directly to the Center Administrator.

 

This role is eligible for hybrid work schedule.

 

Employees with CRA certification are eligible for certification pay.

Job Duties

Pre-Award responsibilities:

  • Prepare grant and subcontract submissions internally (BRAIN) and externally (Sponsor sites) by reviewing protocols, faculty-staff communication for budget creation and budget justifications.
  • Proof and make recommendations to investigators to insure protocol and college compliance.
  • Help to construct biographical sketches and “Other Support” for various grant applications including CPRIT, DOD, NIH and Foundation award mechanisms.
  • The Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center is charged with reviewing and making recommendations to the college leadership those sponsored grant RFA’s requiring limited submissions. To this end, this position is required to manage efforts of an internal submission process to collect, organize, and present for review such applications.

Post-Award responsibilities:

  • Help manage salary source information in compliance with grant awards.
  • Prepare financial reports and track research mission financials for department leadership review for financial performance of grants and contracts.
  • Ensure compliance with all guidelines.
  • Prepare outgoing subcontracts and review incoming subcontracts.
  • Create proposal budgets and upload proposals in BRAIN and Sponsors Sites
  • Aid in the submission and postaward administrative management of the Cancer Center P30 grant. This is the grant mechanism which gives the Cancer Center its NCI Comprehensive status. This is a very unique and important funding mechanism for the Cancer Center.
  • Manage internal LOI submissions related to institutionally limited grants
  • Request Open Records (PACT)
  • Process IPA (VA Agreements)
  • Complete Amendments/NCE
  • Serve as Liaison with NCI regarding P30
  • Approve Financial Status Reports (FSR)
  • Maintain Pilot Award Progress Report Data

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.  Certified Research Administrator certification through the Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC) may substitute for the degree requirement.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Communication skills are vital to this role.
  • Applicants should be able to explain plains facts, policies and practices related to job area to internal stakeholders and counterparts.
  • Be able to communicate with contacts both within and outside of job area on matters that require some explanation or interpretation.
