The Radiographer performs routine and specialized procedures to aid in diagnosis on a portable x-ray machine. May operate general and specialized equipment like a portable x-ray machine or a C-arm Select and modify position of patients and equipment for diagnostic quality images. Performs exams per routine list of procedures. 

Job Duties

  • Performs exams per routine list of procedures
  • Positions patients appropriately for various types of radiographic procedures and equipment, using mechanical/physical immobilization devices that are appropriate to developmental age groups of pediatric patients as indicated in performance improvement monitor and as observed by supervisor.
  • Assists physician with the administration of opaque media solutions, complying on request.
  • Selects appropriate film size for each exam, utilizing the PACS PRID ID stations to identify the images accurately, not to exceed three errors per year.
  • Queries Web 1000 on all exams performed to ensure the images are on Process Station for viewing by the radiologists for dictation.
  • Uses assigned lead markers appropriately on all radiographs as documented by the quality improvement monitor or supervisor/radiologist.
  • Assists Radiologists and referring physicians in locating images and retrieves reports from previous exams needed to assist in expediting the workflow.
  • Assists supervisor in evaluating and maintaining the Computerized Radiography technique chart and ensures all exams are done within the appropriate PACS exposure level guidelines.
  • Ensures all persons in the exam room are using the proper radiation protective devices during the radiologic procedure by adjusting the lead shields to protect parts of the body not of primary interest, with errors not to exceed three occurrences per year.
  • Checks requisition to ensure appropriate exam charges, as documented by the quality improvement monitor or supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited radiography program.
  • One year of relevant experience.
  • Registered as a Radiologic Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or registry eligible and Licensure as a Radiologic Technologist by the Texas Medical Board (TMB).
