Job Purpose

The Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a part-time Qualitative Researcher to conduct and lead the analysis for an NIH funded study to evaluate public opinions of genome editing technologies and their future governance.  

This position can be conducted remotely.

Job Duties
  • Lead analysis of qualitative data from multiple public engagement and deliberation sessions about human genome editing, including developing coding schemes and maintaining data in qualitative data software management program.
  • Identify associations between qualitative results, demographic data, and participant surveys.
  • Develop publications for peer-reviewed journals and prepare data for presentation at relevant scientific conferences.
  • Manage project and timelines to ensure successful completion of all project components and deliverables in a timely manner.
  • Attend all project meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science, Bioethics, Public Health, Public Policy, Philosophy, the Social Sciences or a related field.
  • Four years of relevant experience.
  • Extensive training and actual practice in qualitative research required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience in public engagement is highly desirable.
  • Experience in bioethics is highly desirable.
  • Experience with qualitative data analysis software (e.g., MAXQDA, Dedoose, NVIVO) preferred.
  • Strong analytical and written communication skills, including proficiency in scientific writing.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work both independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to display a positive attitude and high degree of flexibility in accepting work assignments with strong organizational and prioritization skills.
