Summary

The Dan L. Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center's Biomedical Informatics Group at Baylor College of Medicine is looking for a staff member with the ability to act as a team player and who can provide analysis and support of application systems. The successful candidate will join a positive and collaborative software development team of ~15 people, which is part of a larger multidisciplinary team consisting of biobankers, pathologists, clinicians, scientists and statisticians. 


The successful candidate will work with clinical and research faculty and staff of Baylor College of Medicine including, members of the Biobanking team, Advanced Technology Core and other key stakeholders to ensure that concerns and questions related to supported applications are resolved to their satisfaction with minimum disruption. This position requires a solid information technology foundation, domain specific knowledge of biobanking protocols, clinical data and lab procedures to be gained over time.  S/he will help set up new user accounts, build electronic forms, lead training sessions, develop and maintain software user guides and assist the development team by suggesting new software features based on end user feedback. This position will also act as a software tester for new features prior to release.


The most desirable candidates will be able to blend technical knowledge with people skills and have experience with web-based applications, providing support and administration. Job Duties
  • Researches and resolves end user problems, inquiries and requests in a timely and friendly fashion.
  • Gives trainings, demonstrations and presentations of supported enterprise software.
  • Creates and manages electronic data capture forms.
  • Provides software configuration as indicated by user requirements.
  • Verifies and corrects application data loads in RDBMS.
  • Acts as a trusted advisor, becomes involved in customers' decision making process.
  • Identifies and implements strategies to rectify real or anticipated problems.
  • Maintains training content and updates.
  • Understands data and prepares reports through application reporting tool.
  • Communicates end user needs to the development team.
  • Assists with testing new software features and system upgrades.
  • Application troubleshooting and error identification. Should be able to read application logs and understand database, application server and browser interactions.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Two years of relevant experience. 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with software administration, Structured Query Language (SQL), and writing technical documentation.
