Summary

The Department of Surgery is seeking an extraordinary recruit who will provide leadership, direction and development to all clinical activities first and foremost as Chief, followed by research and academic activities, within the Division of Pediatric Surgery. In addition, the Chief will motivate and develop providers and staff by accurately assessing and addressing their develop-mental needs. The Chief will also be expected to maintain a robust clinical practice; to continue to treat patients as appropriate; to be responsible for the clinical education and training of students, residents and fellows; to oversee their interaction with and treatment of patients; and to sustain and advance opportunities in research. 

Job Responsibilities:
  • Provides strategic direction and leadership for the Division of Pediatric Surgery at Texas Children’s Hospital in its clinical, education, research and administrative missions. 
  • Translates a vision for the division into exemplary clinical, educational and research programs with the goal of achieving a top- tiered, nationally ranked division, with a focus on growing the clinical program. 
  • Serves as or designates a physician champion and leader for the provision of quality healthcare and clinical performance excellence. 
  • Provides leadership and oversight of medical staff clinical care, research, and education, as well as performance improvement initiatives. 
  • Facilitates and ensures that the division achieves high performance levels in financial performance, clinical service, and support of education, research and collaboration with colleagues. 
  • Provides assistance to the Surgeon-in-Chief in the successful management of the relationships with hospital partners and other clinical partnerships in reference to pediatric surgery. 
  • Assists with continued improvement in the residency and fellowship training programs and becomes personally involved and engaged with residents and fellows. 
  • Appropriately administers equipment procurement in support of the division. 
  • Champions lean protocols and standards for the service.
Job Qualifications:
  • Minimum Education: M.D., successful completion of the ACGME Pediatric Surgery Residency
  • Minimum Certification/Licensure: Board eligibilty in Pediatric Surgery
