Summary

The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) is seeking to recruit a Chief of Acute Care Surgery at the professor rank to lead a newly formed division incorporating sections of trauma, critical care and general surgery. Candidates should possess superb leadership skills, exceptional clinical expertise in trauma, emergency general surgery and/or surgical critical care, and a record of accomplishment of advancing education and innovative research at the national level.  Successful candidates will provide leadership and strategic oversight of as highly skilled team of clinicians and researchers focused on multidisciplinary emergency surgical care. 


The 150 members of the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery, ranked 13th by the U.S. News & World Report for departments of surgery, practice at iconic institutions within the Texas Medical Center, the world’s largest medical center, including Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center, Ben Taub Hospital, the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, and the Texas Children’s Hospital. The Department trains over 120 residents and fellows annually, including trainees in the only NRMP-listed residency track in global surgery. Our department Office of Surgical Research comprised of over 70 research specialists manage over 80 grants and 130 active clinical studies supported by over $10 million in extramural funding annually. 

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have an MD or MD/PhD degree, be board certified in general surgery and maintain a valid Texas Medical License. Candidate must be eligible to obtain hospital privileges at BCM affiliated facilities. Drug testing/background check is required prior to start.
