The Division of Nutrition, USDA/ARS Children's Nutrition Research Center (CNRC), in the Department of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine seeks applicants for an appointment at the Assistant Professor (tenure-track), Associate Professor (tenured), or Professor (tenured) level. Applicants are expected to have earned a M.D., D.V.M., Ph.D., and/or D.P.H. degree and demonstrated evidence of commitment to scholarly activity and outstanding scientific accomplishments.

Scientists in the CNRC work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment with an ultimate mission to promote the nutritional health of children, and prenatal and lactating women. CNRC investigators use a wide range of model systems to unravel the fundamental biology in the broad areas of nutrition, metabolism and development, investigate the behavioral pathways that contribute to obesity or poorly controlled metabolism among children, and assess approaches for promoting adequate nutrition or preventing and treating obesity among children. We seek outstanding scientists to join the CNRC who can bring in complementary research programs (community, clinical or basic) and advance the CNRC mission. We prioritize the originality, excellence, and promise of the candidate's research program, in addition to the following areas of research emphasis (but all nutrition topic areas will be considered):

  • Randomized Controlled Trials of behavioral weight management for youth, in clinical or community settings
  • Controlled feeding trials among youth, or pregnant or lactating women
  • Maternal health and/or lactation (basic or clinical)
  • Behavioral nutrition
  • Medical nutrition
  • Food policy/economics
  • Statistical, data, bioinformatics, mathematical, AI, and/or computational sciences

The CNRC faculty are well supported by state-of-the-art facilities that allow comprehensive nutritional/metabolic studies in multiple species. These include a human body composition unit, a human metabolic research unit, human whole room indirect calorimetry and exercise laboratory, a confocal and light sheet microscopy core, a mass spectrometry and stable isotope core, a tissue culture laboratory, a plant physiology laboratory, and a mouse/piglet metabolic research unit.

Funding for USDA CRIS projects for CNRC faculty requires research projects to fall under the mission of the USDA National Program 107. More information about NP 107 and its components can be found here: https://www.ars.usda.gov/ARSUserFiles/np107/RP/Action%20Plan%202024-2029-%20Finala.pdf
