Summary

The Bobby R. Alford Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery is seeking an Audiology Extern. The extern will work closely with our team of audiologists and otology providers, who diagnose, manage, and treat disorders of hearing and balance in adults. Our outpatient audiology/otology clinic provides a wide range of diagnostic services, including comprehensive hearing evaluations, hearing aid services, bone conduction implant services, cochlear implant services, and vestibular assessment. There may also be opportunities for electrophysiological assessment. Our practice includes three full-time audiologists, three otologists, a nurse practitioner and physician’s assistant (both specializing in otology), and two audiology assistants. Our audiologists work closely with providers specializing in head and neck surgery, laryngology, rhinology, and facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. The clinic is located in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, TX.

Job Duties

  • Administers and interprets audiological and vestibular evaluations and assessments
  • Assesses the candidacy of persons with hearing loss for hearing aids, osseointegrated devices, and cochlear implants; provide fitting, programming, and audiological rehabilitation to ensure the best possible outcomes.Counsel individuals with auditory disorders, their families and other service providers regarding the etiology of the disorder and its management.
  • Provides reports and coordinate audiological results with other diagnostic data such as educational, medical, social and behavioral information.
  • Dispenses hearing aids to patients, including conformity/real-ear verification measures. 
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and timely documentation.
  • Maintains supplies and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree or completion of the applicable education/training program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Enrollment in an accredited AuD program.
  • Eligible for an intern in audiology license from the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (TDLR)
