Job Purpose


As a member of the Baylor College of Medicine team, the Supply Chain Operations Manager is directly responsible for the daily activities of the Supply Chain Operations within the Medical Center. The Manager is responsible for identifying cost savings opportunities related to improved product, service and related process standardization and utilization. Reviews and assesses applicable financial, operational, and evidence based literature and appropriately assists in the selection, evaluation, monitoring, analysis, and implementation of cost-effective products, services, and related processes


Job Responsibilities


  • Works with product teams or other procurement staff to generate Request for Quotations (RFQ’s) for new or modified parts.
  • Corresponds with or interviews approved suppliers to obtain price, specifications, and delivery information.
  • Researches and sources suppliers for new items.
  • Acts as a mentor and provides technical guidance to less experienced staff.
  • Assist with training, monitoring, and coaching less experienced staff.
  • Oversee day-to-day activities of support personnel and/or buyers.
  • Consult with suppliers, management, departmental, and faculty resources for contractual agreements and priorities.
  • Encourages and empowers others to achieve.
  • Evokes the desire in others for stretch and breakthrough.
  • Participates as a fully contributing member of a project team.
  • Often leads projects or the solving of problems.
  • Develops strong relationships with customer technical or service personnel.
  • Frequent customer presentation.

  • Has strong relationships with major customers and suppliers to influence purchase decisions made by customer upper management.
  • Called upon consistently for external technical advice, speaking engagements.
  • Negotiates contracts with suppliers and/or subcontractors to minimize the liability of The College. Contracts will address such issues as stocking or consignment programs, unit price, delivery, terms and conditions, etc.
  • Maintains compliance with Baylor College of Medicine, State, and Federal guidelines.
  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies.
  • Assigned to consolidate forecast demand and leverage The College’s buying power.
  • Executes stocking and delivery programs.
  • Evaluates make/buy evaluations and clarify procurement issues related to the evaluation.
  • Sources components or services from approved supplier list, evaluates Request for Quote (RFQ), negotiates price, quality, and delivery.
  • Selects supplier and places purchase orders in conformance to The College's procedures and Ethical Codes of Conduct.
Minimum Qualifications


  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Procurement, Operations or a related field.
  • Required: Eight years of relevant experience.
  • None required.
Preferred Qualifications


  • Preferred: Master's degree in a related field.
  • Preferred: Advanced Professional Supply Chain certification (CPM, CPPO, CMRP, or equivalent).
