A post-doctoral position for a recently graduated candidate in developmental biology, genetics or cell and molecular biology is available in Dr. F. Elefteriou’s laboratory at BCM. The position and its associated NIH funding is to work on a project focused on the musculoskeletal maladies associated with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). The laboratory uses genetic mouse models, imaging, organ and primary cell cultures, omics and patient bone samples to dissect the mechanisms underlying bone dysplasia in children with NF1 and to identify new therapeutic approaches adapted to this population. Our research benefits from numerous resources and cores at BCM, from interactions with members and external speakers of the Bone Disease Program of Texas, and from the large TMC community of bone/cartilage biologists and clinicians (https://txbonediseaseprogram.org).

Job Purpose

Postdoctoral Associates are trainees working in an apprenticeship mode in preparation for a career as a scientific professional.

Job Duties

  • Plans, directs and conducts specialized and advanced research experiments.
  • Evaluates and analyzes data.
  • May establish new research protocols and procedures.
  • Summarizes research findings and publish results in research journals. 
  • May be responsible for laboratory operations.
  • May supervise research staff.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • The candidate must have a PhD degree and is expected to be very engaged and pro-active to drive his/her project(s).
  • Strong work ethic, rigor and communication skills are required.
  • Experience in cell culture, molecular biology, histology/microscopy, biochemistry and genetic mouse models is preferred.
  • Experience in the analysis of large dataset (RNAseq, proteomic) is a plus.
  • The candidate will have opportunities to submit fellowship applications based on his/her work.
