A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Javier Medina, located in the Department of Neuroscience at Baylor College of Medicine. The applicant will work on an ongoing research project at the intersection of neuroscience and artificial intelligence. The project is funded by the NIH BRAIN Initiative, and it takes advantage of high-density Neuropixels probes with nearly 1,000 switchable sensors to record and analyze the population activity in the brain of mice performing supervised learning tasks. The goal of this project is to decipher the algorithms that the brain uses to learn, and to develop artificial neural networks to test these algorithms in real-world applications.

Job Purpose

Postdoctoral Associates are trainees working in an apprenticeship mode in preparation for a career as a scientific professional.

Job Duties

  • Plans, directs and conducts research experiments.
  • Data analysis.
  • Publishes results in research journals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Matlab (or other programming languages like Python or Igor).
  • Electrophysiology experience (in vivo or in vitro) is desirable, but not required.
  • PhD in Neuroscience.
  • 0 – 5 years of postdoc experience.
