Summary

The Holder Lab investigates the genetic, molecular and neuronal underpinnings of neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric disorders. We seek a highly motivated individual for a fully funded post-doctoral position to aid in ongoing projects to aid in developing therapeutic entry points for neurodevelopmental disorders.  https://nri.texaschildrens.org/faculty/jimmy-l-holder-jr-md-phd

Job Duties

  • Mouse breeding and husbandry to validate genetic modifiers previously identified in a cell based screen. Validation will be through biochemical analysis and behavioral experiments.
  • Culture primary neurons for biochemical and microscopic validation of the previously identified genetic modifiers.
  • Perform neuron differentiation from patient-derived iPSCs already in the lab for validation of genetic modifiers. 
  • Perform rigorous and well controlled experiments as well as data analysis.
  • Participate in research grant preparation, manuscript writing and presentation of research results at professional conferences.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of basic molecular, cell culture and mouse physiologic techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience either with induced human neurons or electrophysiologic techniques. 
  • Excellent written/oral communication and organizational skills are required, and must work effectively in a team environment.
