A postdoctoral position in bioinformatics and computational biology is available in Dr. Bing Zhang's laboratory at Baylor College of Medicine (http://www.zhang-lab.org). The laboratory is well-funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT), and the McNair Medical Institute at The Robert and Janice McNair Foundation. We are involved in several collaborative projects that generate large amount of data at DNA, RNA, protein, and clinical phenotype levels from human tumors, patient-derived xenografts (PDXs), and cancer cell lines. Our research focuses on developing bioinformatics and computational approaches that help translate these data into novel biological and clinical insights. The candidate is expected to develop deep learning algorithms that allows integrating protein sequence information into proteomics and multi-omics data analysis.

Job Duties

  • Researches and evaluates existing deep learning algorithms for sequence data analysis.
  • Applies selected methods with appropriate modifications to the analysis of protein sequence data for supervised or unsupervised tasks.
  • Publishes methods, software and application papers.
  • Provides technical guidance, work direction and training to other lab members on sequence modeling with deep learning

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field
  • No experience required

Preferred Qualifications

•    Ph. D. in bioinformatics, computer science, biostatistics, mathematics, biology, or a related field. 
•    Track record of productivity as demonstrated by publications and/or software tools
•    Programming skills (Python and R)
•    Knowledge and experience with machine learning
•    Programming in UNIX/LINUX environment
•    Strong presentation skills and written/verbal communication skills

Experience with deep learning frameworks (Tensorflow/Pytorch/Keras) and algorithms
•    Strong math and statistics background
•    Experience with omics data, especially mass spectrometry proteomics data
•    Knowledge about molecular biology and cancer biology
