A Postdoctoral Associate position is available in the Department of Neuroscience at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. The group studies the novel mechanisms underlying chronic pain, chronic pain-induced mood disorders, and opioid analgesic tolerance at molecular, cellular, and synaptic network levels, using a multidisciplinary approach that includes high throughput sequencing, mice genetics, molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, electrophysiology, virus-mediated gene transfer, imaging, and behavior analyses.

Job Purpose

Postdoctoral Associates are trainees working in an apprenticeship mode in preparation for a career as a scientific professional.
We are looking for applicant to work on a project involving synaptic structural and functional plasticity mechanisms underlying chronic pain. The successful candidates will be expected to work independently to develop and execute original research and possess a high motivation to drive and conduct research. The applicant must have a strong background of neuroscience and/or electrophysiology.

Job Duties
  • Plans, directs and conducts specialized and advanced research experiments.
  • Evaluates and analyzes data.
  • May establish new research protocols and procedures.
  • Summarizes research findings and publish results in research journals. 
  • May be responsible for laboratory operations.
  • May supervise research staff.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education Required: MD or Ph.D in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • Experience Required: None Required.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration: None Required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrate a solid publication record and evidence of excellent skills/experience in one or more of the following areas: mouse behavior, small animal surgery, electrophysiology, imaging, biochemistry.
