Job Purpose

A funded Postdoctoral Associate position is available in the laboratory of Anthony Mustoe at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) in Houston, TX. The lab's work lies at the intersection of biology, chemistry, and computation, with the primary goal of defining the roles of RNA structure in gene regulation.

Multiple projects are available: (i) developing and applying state-of-the-art chemical probing methods to characterize RNA structure and dynamics in mammalian cell lines; (ii) developing massively parallel reporter assays to interrogate RNA regulation; (iii) for computational scientists, integrating publicly available genomics datasets with RNA structural data to model disease processes. The position offers the opportunity for rigorous training in multiple disciplines and the chance to build a high-impact research program from the ground-up.

 

Job Duties
  • Plans, directs and conducts specialized and advanced research experiments.
  • Evaluates and analyzes data.
  • May establish new research protocols and procedures.
  • Summarizes research findings and publish results in research journals. 
  • May be responsible for laboratory operations.
  • May supervise research staff.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education Required: MD or Ph.D in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • Experience Required: None Required.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration: None Required.
Preferred Qualifications

Applicants should currently hold a PhD or be an advanced graduate student with at least one first author publication in a respected journal. Ideally, applicants should have experience in one or more the following areas: biochemistry, cell biology, RNA biology, biophysics, genomics, bioinformatics. Candidates with backgrounds in either experiment or computation who are interested in broadening their skills and working at the experiment/computation interface are particularly encouraged to apply.
