Postdoctoral position in synthetic biology, protein engineering, and/or high-throughput screening

Job Purpose

We are seeking a talented scientist or bioengineer to join our team (www.stpierrelab.com; Twitter: @StPierreLab). Our lab invents and applies new molecular tools of broad utility in research. For example, we develop protein-based fluorescent biosensors for measuring neural activity, synthetic gene networks for controlling protein production, and high-throughput methods for discovery genes involved in the disease. We are looking for a motivated, organized, and resourceful scientist to accelerate these efforts and lead them into new directions. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop cutting-edge molecular and imaging technologies, thereby developing an attractive portfolio towards future applications for faculty or industry positions. We have multiple areas of interest and specific projects can be discussed in greater detail with Dr. St-Pierre.

Job Duties
  • Develop and lead an impactful research project, thereby developing your own "brand" of research that can be the basis for a successful application to an industry or faculty job.
  • Learn new technical and communication skills
  • Disseminate new technologies via patents, publications, conference presentations, collaborations, etc., making new contacts and expanding your network along the way.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: Ph.D in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.

Experience: None required.

Additional Skills

Candidates should have strong expertise in at least one of the following categories:

  • Molecular biology/engineering. Example of useful techniques are cloning, saturation mutagenesis, engineering new cell lines, etc.
  • Microfluidics
  • Developing custom imaging setups

Experience with visualizing protein structures, programming, and tissue culture are an example of useful (but not required) areas of expertise.

Candidates must have at least one first-author paper by the time they join the lab.
