The Finnell Lab is looking for individuals with strong molecular and cellular biology skills, especially using the latest gene editing approaches.  Experience interpreting genomic data and performing functional analyses of identified variants is essential. Facility with stem cells is also important.

Various laboratory projects are focused on understanding the underlying molecular pathology that gives rise to complex human congenital malformations, including spina bifida.  Projects include efforts to rescue the model systems (neurocysts, mouse embryos) created using a haploid stem cell line with multiple gene variants identified from human WGS studies inserted by gene editing technologies.  Projects involving cytosolic and mitochondrial one carbon metabolism manipulations using established mouse mutants are available, with a focus on the Cerebral Folate Deficiency syndrome.
