The long-term goal of the Lemon Lab is to identify bacterial strains and compounds that will be leads for new approaches to prevent and treat infections by Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae, two common members of the human nasal microbiome. To achieve this, we are elucidating the molecular mechanisms of interspecies interactions in the human nasal microbiome. The Lemon Lab uses a multi-disciplinary approach, merging molecular biology, transcriptional and next-generation sequencing techniques with chemical and computational biology to identify genes and molecules that help shape the microbiome. Dr. Lemon is also a practicing Pediatric Infectious Diseases physician and clinical needs are a key motivator of research in her lab.
