Summary

The Department of Pathology & Immunology at Baylor College of Medicine, in partnership with Texas Children’s Hospital, seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate to investigate microbiome - membrane interactions in gastrointestinal health and disease. This position involves studying molecular and cellular mechanisms of host-microbe signaling, intestinal barrier function, and membrane biology to identify potential therapeutic targets.

Job Duties

  • Designs and conducts research.
  • Plans, performs, and analyzes experiments using advanced molecular, cellular, and biochemical approaches to study microbiome-membrane interactions.
  • Conducts data integration and analysis.
  • Evaluates and interprets experimental results; integrates molecular findings with multi-omics and disease outcome data from patient and animal studies.
  • Models development and experimental tools.
  • Generates, maintains, and utilizes transgenic and disease models to support mechanistic investigations. 
  • Conducts scholarly dissemination.
  • Prepares manuscripts, contributes to grant proposals, and presents research findings at local, national, and international meetings.
  • Conducts laboratory leadership and mentorship.
  • Supports daily lab operations, assists in establishing new protocols, and mentors students or junior team members. 
  • Conducts other duties as assigned.
  • Contributes to general lab activities and ensures compliance with institutional research and safety standards. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in microscopy and cellular biology techniques.
  • Experience with animal models and experimental research.
  • Background in membrane biology.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills; able to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
