Summary
The Baylor College of Medicine Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy in partnership with the Rice University Medical Humanities Research Institute, invites applications for an inaugural, 2-year postdoctoral fellowship in medical humanities and bioethics of health artificial intelligence (AI). The fellow will join a vibrant, new collaborative research Center for Humanities-based Health AI Innovation (CHHAIN) funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. This fellowship provides early-career scholars the opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research at the intersection of medical humanities, ethics, and emerging AI technologies in healthcare.
The fellow will contribute to CHHAIN’s collaborative agenda by supporting and advancing empirical and conceptual research. Key responsibilities include data collection, data analysis, dissemination of findings through conferences and peer-reviewed publications, project management, and scholarly communication across disciplines and with community partners.
Job Duties
- Designs and conducts empirical research projects, including data collection and qualitative/mixed-methods analysis.
- Collaborates with CHHAIN co-leads and faculty across Baylor and Rice on interdisciplinary scholarship.
- Coordinates project management tasks including timelines, deliverables, and cross-institutional collaborations.
- Contributes to scholarly dissemination through peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and workshops.
- Strengthens CHHAIN’s community outreach through engagement with health organizations and local stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education Required: MD or Ph.D. in a related field.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD from an accredited degree-granting institution in bioethics, medical humanities, medical anthropology, or a relevant Humanities or Social Science discipline completed by July 1, 2026.
- Degree earned within the past six years or dissertation defense scheduled for Spring 2026.
- Evidence of research relevant to ethical and trustworthy artificial intelligence applications in health demonstrated through a cover letter, CV, and single-authored writing sample (maximum 25 pages).
