Summary
The Texas Heart Institute at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking an experienced perfusionist to support its large animal surgery research lab. The ideal candidate will be comfortable performing cardiopulmonary perfusion services on bovine and ovine models in collaboration with veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and surgeons. This role will be on an as-needed basis, typically 3-4 times per month, but may be more or less frequent depending on the requirements of each study.
This position is located at the Texas Heart Institute in the Texas Medical Center.
Job Duties
- Maintains and operates a cardiopulmonary pump during invasive cardiovascular procedures on animal models.
- Sets up and operate the heart-lung machine to assume the function of organs during surgery.
- Ensures that supplies and equipment are always readily available.
- May administer medications through the bypass circuit as directed by a veterinarian or physician.
- Operates equipment to achieve bypass, coronary perfusion, recirculation or partial bypass, or to alter blood content, temperature or balance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and completion of an accredited Perfusionist Technology program.
- Two years of relevant experience.
- Licensed Perfusionist (LP) by the State of Texas Medical Board (TMB). Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP).
