Summary

The Department of Pediatrics in the section of Nutrition is currently seeking a Professor Tenure Track.

Job Duties

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBLITIES:             

Strategy and Vision -

  • Provides strategic direction and leadership for the Center at Baylor College of Medicine in its education, research, community, and administrative missions.
  • Establishes a vision for the Center and effectively communicates how it contributes to the success of individuals.
  • Collaborates with the USDA in aligning the Center's vision with federal interests.
  • Faculty affairs and faculty development
  • Recruits and retains talented and diverse faculty.
  • Responsible for supporting the academic development, promotion, mentoring and retention of faculty.

Research and Education -

  • Demonstrates innovation and scholarship, a record of extramurally funded basic and/or translational research, and ability to balance education and research.
  • Responsible for effective use of the Center's resources in maintaining excellence in the missions of education, training, and research across all sites including regional campuses and affiliates outside of Houston.
  • Fund development activities in the areas of promotion.
  • Administrative and Finance Operations -
  • Provides stewardship of financial resources in accordance with the College's Accounting and Finance policies.   
  • Provides accountability for Center financial and budgetary performance.
  • Ensure proper use and management of all financial tools and systems.
  • Oversees accreditation and regulatory management activities.
  • Ensures that the Center's employment activities and practices are in compliance with college guidelines and policies and that the Center's personnel act in accordance with these practices.

Additional Job Duties

Human Resources -

  • Provides oversight and counsel on personnel decisions and actions, including promotions, salary actions, performance evaluations, training, performance management, and terminations.
  • Encourages and supports diversity, equity and inclusion among the Center's constituents, creating an environment of professionalism, respect, tolerance, and acceptance.
  • Assures equitable salary and academic work conditions for Center faculty and staff and facilitates their continuing professional development.

Philanthropy -

  • Set the tone and provide mission area expertise in the development of donor communications and cultivation.
  • Attends donor activities and partners with Advancement professionals to optimize donor relations through events and individual meetings.
  • Fiduciary responsibility responsible for providing informational reporting on the use of gift funds.

Minimum Qualifications

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:         

  • Experience in operational and financial management and demonstrated leadership in a hospital, academic healthcare center, or academic group practice environment.
  • An established record of leadership.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • A skillful negotiator that can manage conflicting agendas.
  • Capability to succeed in different environments as an effective change agent, capable of making and communicating tough decisions.
  • A record of success in mentoring and developing faculty and supporting them in their academic and teaching endeavors.
  • Ability to comprehend cutting edge research
  • High energy and enthusiasm balanced with a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to build bridges and function as a team player who is willing to work with others within the Center and College to leverage individual and team strengths.
  • Ability to balance personal and professional life to manage stress and a challenging workload.

 

Education and Licensure:     

  • Must be qualified for faculty appointment at the rank of Full Professor.
  • Must have national recognition as a researcher, translational scientist, and/or educator in nutritional health.
  • Compensation - A comprehensive and competitive compensation package commensurate with the candidate's experience and qualifications will be offered.
