Title: Otolaryngology (Instructor - Physician Assistant)
Summary
The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery is seeking a Physician Assistant to support the Microvascular Reconstruction and Sleep Surgery service lines under the direction of a head and neck surgeon. This individual will require patient care in the outpatient setting, with potential to assist in the operating room and will work closely with faculty, residents, and clinical staff within the department.
Job Duties
- Assist in Head and Neck Cancer Oncologic and Reconstructive Surgery Operations including, but not limited to, local flaps, skin grafts, tracheotomy, and microvascular free tissue transfer
- Perform in office procedures such as fiberoptic laryngoscopy and tracheostomy tube exchanges (training will be provided) wound care, suturing, etc
- Evaluate patients in the outpatient setting and determine an initial treatment strategy under direction of supervising MD, maintain timely and accurate documentation of patient interactions
- Order appropriate perioperative diagnostic exams and other diagnostic procedures when appropriate
- Assist in coordination of care for patients in preparation for surgery, including scheduling surgery and post-operative follow up, providing patient education, and securing financial clearance/insurance authorization for operative care
- Participate in surgical planning with supervising MD and appropriate vendor for reconstructive and/or sleep surgery
- Participate in service line quality improvement projects or research conducted by supervising MD as necessary
- Contribute to discussion of patients as part of multi-disciplinary tumor board panel on a weekly basis
- Provide direction and support to PA students, medical students, or other trainees as required
- Support other APCs and clinical staff as positive role model in the department
Minimum Qualifications
- Education Required: Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies. NOTE: Bachelor's degree in Physician Assistant Studies accepted based on terminal degree requirements at time of graduation.
- Experience Required: None required.
- Certification/Licenses/Registration: Current license as a Physician Assistant by the State of Texas Physician Assistant Board. Specialty certification as required by department. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
