Title: Orthopedic Technician
Summary
Baylor Medicine is looking for a experienced Orthopedic Technician - someone who works well in a fast-paced clinical setting. In this position, you will provide excellent customer service and assist the patient care team by providing casting, DME, and wound care assistance to the licensed providers for patient's scheduled clinic visits. You will be responsible for ordering clinical supplies including DME, and medications. Lastly, you will provide operational assistance, ensuring and coordinating the intake and rooming of patients to effectively manage the patient visit cycle time.
The ideal candidate will experience with casting, splinting, durable medical equipment, suture removal and wound care.
Job Duties
- Provides casting and DME assistance to all members of the orthopedic and sports medicine team.
- Monitors supply inventory.
- Responsible for ordering supplies including DME, and medications.
- Prepares for injections, changes dressings, and removes sutures.
- Prepares for sterile procedure. Assists with procedures.
- Discards expired stock.
- Labels all opened supplies appropriately with received date, date opened, and expiration date
- Promotes customer service, patient safety, communication, and interaction in the clinic.
- Uses EPIC Electronic Medical Records.
- Responsible for all DME dispensing, and ordering.
- Responsible for applying and removing of upper and lower extremities casts and splints.
- Applies orthopedic soft goods and bracing including dispensing and measuring of all functional braces.
- Prioritizes order of casting needs.
- Responsible for sending the surgical DME to the patients in Pre-op
- Travels to satellite location at least three times a week as needed to cover casting needs.
- Responsible for autoclaving instruments daily.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified by the National Board for the Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists (NBCOT).
