Summary

The Optometrist will examine patients to determine the nature and degree of vision problems and/or eye disease.  The Optometrist’s primary duties will include, but are not limited to: examining patients and performing various tests to determine visual acuity and perception; prescribing eyeglasses, corrective lenses, and other vision aids or therapeutic procedures to correct or conserve vision; consulting with patients and referring them to Ophthalmologists or other health care practitioners if additional medical treatment is determined necessary; studying eye diseases and how to prevent and cure them.

This position is located at the Center for Women and Children Southwest Clinic.

 

The optometrist must be comfortable seeing patients of all ages from infants to visually mature.  Also must be flexible in providing care for special needs patients as well as newborn infants.  Willingness to provide just-in-time consultations for urgent Pediatric and OB needs.

Job Duties

  • Performs full eye examinations for children of all ages as well as adults and meet all necessary components needed for a comprehensive eye exam.
  • Choses appropriate frames and lenses for children based on eye wear needs and vision.
  • Adjusts glasses and troubleshoot patient needs for broken eye wear.
  • Performs eye exams for medical needs (amblyopia, strabismus, foreign body, conjunctivitis).
  • Schedules and manages those patients over time that need continuous care.  
  • Reads and interprets retinal scans taken by other departments (OB, Pedi) and provide a written report in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctor of Optometry (OD).
  • Current license as an Optometrist by the Texas Optometry Board.
