The Network Architect has responsibility for architecture, design, and implementation of technical infrastructure solutions, including network, IP Telephony, and security platforms for Baylor. Responsibilities also include designing, implementing new network/security technologies and process improvement.  Works with other Office of Information Technology (OIT) team members and end users to understand business requirements and identify solutions.  The Network Architect serves a critical role to further Baylor OIT’s design and roll-out of network & security infrastructure. The Infrastructure Architect will further guide the direction of OIT through assisting in the development of new processes including the automation of daily operational duties to reduce errors and outages due to implementation.  
The network architect must be able to effectively interact with the NES team and other member of Office of Information Technology.  This person must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. The network architect must be able to quickly analyze issues and create a quick path to resolution. In depth knowledge of networking, security, and servers is essential to the success of this candidate.

Job Duties

•    Responsible for strategic network and security designs and implementing according to industry best practices.
•    Responsible for the successful implementation of network and security products which support the infrastructure of the organization.
•    Primarily responsibility for converting IT security and compliance policy into technology-specific decisions and implement those technologies.
•    Provides ongoing support to junior network engineering and security team members for the existing security infrastructure, including but not limited to firewalls (internal, perimeter and cloud), IDS/IPS, web proxies, load balancers, DLP, Zero-day vulnerability tools, network switches, and network routers.
•    Provides escalation support for less senior NES team members, and lead infrastructure outages to resolution. 
•    Leads medium-to-large network & security-centric projects.
•    Evaluates projects from other groups and departments, using the Demand Process. 
•    Closely collaborates with the BCM Audit and Compliance group in the evaluation and implementation of network security-related technologies
•    Recommends technology and develops annual budgetary information for network and security projects, as well as security-related components of related voice related projects.
•    Performs repair and ongoing maintenance, of Baylor's security infrastructure located at the main campus, as well as throughout the Texas Medical Center and remote locations in the Houston metropolitan area.
•    As a part of the Office of Information Technology team, participates in business requirement gathering sessions, gathers user data requirements, understands the user requirements and assists in the reconciliation of technical and business requirements as they relate to infrastructure.
•    Participates in the evaluation and recommendation of the appropriate infrastructure tools, procedures, and facilities for creating and maintaining the enterprise infrastructure.
•    Maintains, governs and enforces infrastructure standards.
•    Manages life-cycle and generate quarterly reports outlining each model managed by NES. 
•    Creates network, security, and topology standards. 
•    Provides quality assurance for respective projects.
•    Identifies and evaluates future technologies for applicable solutions.
•    Completes special projects as identified by senior leadership.
•    Develops and maintains comprehensive documentation and meet the SLA’s set with customers for the services provided.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree. Four years of relevant experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Six years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

•    Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or CISSP, CCSP, CCDP, CCIE.
•    At least two years in an active architect role.
