Summary

The Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking candidates for a full-time faculty position as a Geriatrician in the section of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at an academic rank (Assistant or Associate Professor) commensurate with experience. Successful candidates will build a clinical consult service focused on geriatric syndromes in our outpatient clinic at the McNair campus and provide consultative and co-management inpatient care at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center including call responsibility. As a member of the Baylor College of Medicine, you are expected to role-model and teach exceptional compassionate evidence-based care. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in clinical care and at least one additional area of focus- research, quality improvement, social justice, ethics, education, or other area.

Job Duties

  • Provide expert clinical care to patients in the outpatient and inpatient clinic setting with serious illness, including pain and symptoms management, emotional support, and communication of treatment goals and options.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare providers, to develop and implement patient-centered care plans that align with patients' goals and preferences.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to facilitate shared decision-making and ensure that patients' values and preferences are respected.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including performance improvement projects and program development.
  • Provide expert clinical care to older adults in the outpatient and inpatient clinical setting.
  • Develop a practice focused on geriatric syndromes and system of care optimization for older adults.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare providers, to develop and implement patient-centered care plans that align with patients' goals and preferences.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to facilitate shared decision-making and ensure that patients' values and preferences are respected.
  • Pursue opportunities for personal and professional growth as an academic clinician, including progress toward timely promotion and career advancement.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have an M.D. degree or equivalent from an approved LCME medical school and satisfactory completion of a Geriatrics Fellowship from an ACGME-accredited program. Candidates must be eligible for Texas medical licensure and be board certified/board eligible in Internal Medicine.
