Summary

An instructor position is available immediately in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Baylor College of Medicine. Based at the Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center campus in Houston, Texas, this role provides psychological evaluation and evidence-based treatment for patients with gastrointestinal disorders and obesity, while collaborating with a multidisciplinary care team to support comprehensive, patient-centered care.

Job Duties

• Conduct comprehensive psychological evaluations for patients with gastrointestinal conditions, with a focus on disorders of gut-brain interaction, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and related disorders. 
• Provide evidence-based behavioral health interventions, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), GI-focused behavioral therapies, stress management techniques, and gut-directed hypnotherapy. 
• Assess psychological, behavioral, and psychosocial factors affecting gastrointestinal health and treatment outcomes. 
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary gastrointestinal care team, including gastroenterologists, advanced practice providers, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals, to develop and implement integrated, patient-centered treatment plans. 
• Participate in the evaluation and management of patients with obesity, including individuals being considered for bariatric endoscopic procedures. 
• Provide pre-procedure psychological assessments and ongoing behavioral health support to optimize treatment outcomes and enhance quality of life. 
• Deliver patient education and counseling regarding behavioral strategies to improve symptom management, treatment adherence, and overall well-being. 
• Contribute to multidisciplinary care planning and coordinate psychological services to support comprehensive patient care.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

• Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.

Post terminal degree education:

• Completion of a predoctoral internship in psychology.
• Postdoctoral training in clinical psychology, health psychology, behavioral medicine, or a related area preferred but not required.

Certifications/Registrations/Licensure:

• Current licensure, or eligibility for licensure, as a psychologist in the State of Texas.

Previous Experience:

• Clinical experience providing psychological assessment and evidence-based psychotherapy to adult patients.
• Relevant experience may include supervised practicum, predoctoral internship, postdoctoral fellowship, or independent clinical practice.
• Experience in health psychology, behavioral medicine, integrated medical care, or multidisciplinary clinical settings is preferred.
• Prior gastroenterology-specific experience is not required.
• The candidate should have excellent communication skills, be highly self-motivated and work well in a team.
