Summary

Baylor College of Medicine's Urology Team is seeking a Medical Assistant II who is proficient in delivering patient care in an ambulatory care setting. The Medical Assistant II performs patient care responsibilities and provides clerical/administrative support in a clinical setting.

 

This position will have some responsibilities for patients enrolled in clinical research. Some of the duties may include screening and enrolling subjects and scheduling follow up clinic visits.

Job Duties

  • Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as taking vital signs, venipuncture (blood draws), collecting specimens, and wound care.
  • Collects patient history, performs medication reconciliation and enters information in the electronic medical record.
  • Notes the primary complaint/reason for patient’s visit.
  • Sets up instruments and equipment for Physician.
  • Assists with procedures as needed, including cysto procedures.
  • Administers medication under direction / order of a supervising Physician.
  • Instructs Patients on general care and medical procedures.
  • Maintains patient and service rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Schedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments.
  • Conducts patient outreach phone calls and post visit follow-ups.
  • Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities such as filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
  • Interviews, screens, and recruits patients for research studies; explains processes and procedures to educate participants regarding the research study within the scope of practice.
  • Collects patient information, processes documents, and enters subject information into sponsor database.
  • Consults with project team members to ensure study time points are met.
  • Oversees and maintains accurate source documentation, patient records, drug documentation, as well as drug / accountability reconciliation per study protocol; monitors documentation for quality and accuracy.
  • Schedules research participants for tests and procedures, such as laboratory tests plus other study-specific tests and procedures per study protocol.
  • Takes inventory of clinic supplies and order supplies as needed.
  • Sorts and distributes clinic mail and medical records to the appropriate clinic personnel.
  • Assists with Autoclaving instruments.
  • Collects Urine samples/cultures.
  • Handles patient daily calls.
  • Assists the research team with patient enrollment, monitoring, and study visit follow-up during clinical trials. 
     

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NHA, NAHP, or AMCA).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Urology or OB-Gyn experience.
