Summary

The Department of Medicine Live Answer Medicine Triaging Team at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a competent and reliable medical assistant to help support the 11 sections within the department with phone triaging, patient care, and clinical support for various clinicians. This position will assist in the intake of medical calls within the department along with supporting the clinicians during examination and treatment of patients. Main responsibilities include medical phone triaging, clinical support and updating patients’ medical records within the EMR system (EPIC). Typical shifts include 7:30-4:30; 8:00-5:00; 8:30-5:30 Monday-Friday.

 

The Medical Assistants within this department, under supervision of the Clinic Nurse Manager (and practice providers) are responsible for assisting in the delivery of health care and patient care management. The candidate must possess a proactive, team-oriented positive attitude while preforming selected nursing and administrative duties. It is expected that the candidate be able and willing to use the principles of the team-based care of a patient-centered medical home, chronic care management models and quality improvement measures. It is the responsibility of this position to contribute to a patient centric and customer focused environment where the needs of the patients come first. This position is an addition to a team of Medical Assistants and Nurses who work respectfully and collaboratively each day to provide our patients with the utmost exceptional care they deserve.

Job Duties

  • Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as taking vital signs, venipuncture (blood draws), collect specimens, EKGs/ECGs, and laboratory Point of Care Testing.
  • Collects patient history, performs medication reconciliation and enters information in EPIC.
  • Notes the primary complaint/reason for patient’s visit.
  • Sets up instruments and equipment for physician.
  • Assists with procedures as needed.
  • Administers medication under direction of a supervising Physician.
  • Instructs Patients on general care and medicine procedures.
  • Maintains patient and service rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Schedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments.
  • Conducts patient outreach phone calls and post-visit follow-ups.
  • Responds to routine patient phone calls and My Chart messages and routes to RN, ACP or MD as needed.
  • Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities such as filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
  • Takes inventory of clinic supplies and orders supplies as needed.
  • Sorts and distributes clinic mail and medical records to the appropriate clinic personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and completion of an approved Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NAHP, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, or NRMA). New employees who are not currently certified, must obtain certification within six months of employment.
