Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The Bobby R. Alford Department of Otolaryngology is in search of a Medical Assistant I to join our clinical team.

 

As a Medical Assistant I, you will positively contribute to our patients' experience by providing compassionate care, and being a reliable member of the team. Ideally, you will have an interest in working in an outpatient facility with surgical patients and the desire to work closely with surgeons and learners in an academic setting.

Job Duties

  • Prepares patients for examination and procedures by obtaining vital signs, medical history, and documenting chief complaints accurately in the EMR.
  • Assists facial plastic surgeons and providers during in-office procedures (e.g., injectables, minor surgical procedures, laser treatments) while maintaining sterile technique.
  • Sets up, cleans, and sterilizes instruments and procedure rooms in accordance with infection control and OSHA standards.
  • Provides pre- and post-procedure patient education, including wound care instructions and follow-up expectations.
  • Ensures proper documentation of patient interactions, treatments, and provider instructions in the electronic medical record.
  • Manages patient flow efficiently, including rooming patients, coordinating schedules, and minimizing wait times.
  • Prepares and labels specimens for laboratory processing as needed.
  • Maintains inventory of medical and cosmetic supplies; stocks rooms and notifies leadership of shortages.
  • Supports providers with photography for before-and-after documentation following clinic protocols.
  • Assists with prescription processing, prior authorizations, and pharmacy communication as directed.
  • Handles sensitive patient information with confidentiality and professionalism (HIPAA compliance).
  • Provides excellent customer service to patients, addressing questions and concerns in a timely and compassionate manner.
  • Assists with front office duties as needed, including scheduling, check-in/check-out, and phone triage.
  • Maintains knowledge of facial plastic procedures, products, and post-care protocols to support patient care and education.
  • Adheres to all clinic policies, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and completion of an approved Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • No experience required.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, AAH, AAMP, or NPS).  New employees who are not currently certified must obtain certification within six months of employment.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of, or experience in an Otolaryngology (ENT), allergy, or other outpatient surgery practice.
  • Prior customer service experience.
