Summary
The Medical Assistant I will work in one of eight clinic locations. Each clinic is typically staffed with a Patient Support Services Coordinator, A Medical Assistant a Nurse (RN or LVN) and a Nurse Practitioner. In a typical day, each clinic is expected to see between 20-25 patients, depending on visit type.
The Baylor Teen Health Clinic currently provides pregnancy testing, family planning, sexually transmitted diseases (STD) and HIV/AIDS education and screening, primary healthcare, and case management services to teens, their partners, and adolescents in Harris County. The clinics provide services to teens from the age of 13-24.

Job Duties
- Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as taking vital signs, venipuncture (blood draws), collect specimens, EKGs/ECGs, and laboratory Point of Care Testing.
- Collects patient history, performs medication reconciliation and enters information in the EMR.
- Notes the primary complaint/reason for patient’s visit.
- Sets up instruments and equipment for NP/MD
- Assists with procedures as needed.
- Administers medication under direction.
- Instructs Patients on general care and medicine procedures.
- Maintains patient and service rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
- Schedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments.
- Conducts patient outreach phone calls and post visit follow-ups.
- Responds to routine patient phone calls as needed.
- Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities such as filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
- Takes inventory of clinic supplies and order supplies as needed.
- Sorts and distributes clinic mail and medical records to the appropriate clinic personnel.
- Enters additional information into other databases, such as HIV and STI results.
- Assists with venipuncture, as well as the administration of vaccinations.
- Prepares and packages lab specimens for pick up.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education Required: High school diploma or GED and completion of an approved Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
- No experience required.
- Certification/Licenses/Registration Required: Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NHA, NAHP, or AMCA). New employees who are not currently certified, must obtain certification within six months of employment.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual in Spanish.
- Experience with veinpuncture and vaccine administration.
