Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The Business Operations Manager supports the financial and operational activities of the Department of Neurology across clinical, research, and educational missions. This role manages complex business operations, coordinates financial processes, and provides analysis to support departmental decision-making. Working with a high degree of independence, the position integrates financial planning, administrative operations, and compliance activities across multiple funding sources. This role serves as a key partner to departmental leadership to support operational efficiency, financial stewardship, and strategic initiatives.

 

Collaborates with clinical and research leadership to support financial and operational coordination across functional areas. Coordinates with central finance, HR, and compliance offices to ensure alignment with institutional policies. Supports preparation of financial reports, presentations, and analysis for departmental leadership, including the Chair and Administrator.

 

This role supports financial and operational activities across a complex department with multiple funding sources, including clinical, research, education, and restricted funds. The position requires the ability to manage competing priorities, interpret financial data, and provide actionable recommendations to leadership. The role operates with a high degree of independence while working within established institutional policies and delegated authority. 

Job Duties

People Leadership & Team Development – 60%

  • Supervises professional staff, including a Senior Financial Analyst and business operations personnel.
  • Assigns work, establishes priorities, and monitors performance to ensure operational effectiveness.

Operations Management & Administration – 15% 

  • Manages daily business operations across HR, compliance, faculty affairs, and administrative functions.
  • Implements operational workflows and process improvements to enhance efficiency and internal controls.

Strategic Analysis & Performance Management – 15% 

  • Provides financial and operational analysis to support departmental leadership decision-making. 
  • Identifies trends, risks, and opportunities and develops recommendations to improve performance

Financial Management & Budget Support – 5% 

  • Supports development and administration of departmental budgets across 14 fund centers.
  • Implements and monitors financial processes to ensure accurate tracking, reconciliation, and appropriate use of funds.
  • Analyzes financial performance, identifies variances, and recommends corrective actions to maintain budget alignment.

Faculty Affairs & Institutional Coordination – 5%

  • Oversees faculty onboarding, credentialing, and re-credentialing processes. 
  • Coordinates faculty promotion and equity review submissions. 

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree. 
  • Four years of relevant experience. 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience in healthcare, academic medicine, or complex multi-fund financial environments.
  • Experience with financial forecasting, budgeting, and fund management.
  • Experience supervising professional staff.
  • Experience working with enterprise financial systems (e.g., SAP, EPIC, or similar).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
