Job Purpose

Responsible for overall management and direction of clinical and business operations in the ambulatory care areas of Infusion (non-chemotherapy), Float Pool, and Phone Triage. Manages, directs, and coordinates the day-to-day activities of patient care in these areas, as well as develops staff and collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary professionals. Ensures the cleanliness of the clinic. Promotes and encourages an environment that provides quality care. Promotes and encourages an environment that supports patient and staff safety.

Job Duties
  • Performs responsibilities in a manner that promotes quality and safe patient care and customer service.
  • Adheres to the scope of practice as defined by the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
  • Manages personnel objectives by selecting, orienting, training, assigning duties, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and may discipline employees. Communicates updated policies and procedures and job expectations. Conducts annual performance appraisals and makes recommendations for staff increases.
  • Ensures efficient operation of the clinic or unit by scheduling and directing the daily activities of the clinic/nursing unit.
  • Develops and implements clinic protocols.
  • Monitors facility and equipment condition and orders clinic supplies. Communicates and coordinates with the appropriate individuals for housekeeping activities and equipment repairs and/or maintenance.

  • Communicates with patients, family, and staff in order to ensure nursing compliance with Baylor College of Medicine policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for creating and monitoring adherence to budget for the clinic.
  • Identifies and supports cost containment for patients and the clinic.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and protects operations by monitoring confidential information processing.
  • Maintains documentation of patient care services by auditing patient and department records.
  • Assists with treatment room examination and procedures on patients.
  • Provides professional nursing assessment of patients.
  • Schedules appointments, tests, and examinations with hospital and other doctors' offices.
  • Proofs and identifies deficiencies of history and physical examinations.

  • Provides telephone triage to patients and ensure patients receive the right level of care.
  • Respects and supports patient rights and promotes positive family and patient relations.
  • Responsible for meeting patient experience goals, provide service recovery, and address any patient complaints in a timely manner.
  • Prioritizes and organizes work so that assignments are completed in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Maintains clean and safe work environment; stocks, and orders treatment room supplies.
  • Maintains a professional and cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information, responding to requests, and building rapport by participating in team problem-solving methods.
  • Identifies and develops strategic plan for Float Pool Program Implementation, as well as Phone Triage and oversees roll-out of the programs system wide.
Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Nursing.  Degrees in lieu of experience will not be accepted.

Experience:

  • Required: Four years of relevant experience as a licensed Registered Nurse (RN).

Certification/Licenses/
Registration:

  • Required: Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
Other

Physical Risks: Potential exposures to blood borne pathogens (blood and/or other potentially infectious materials), drugs, chemicals, radiation, and physical hazards found in patient clinics, hospitals and/or laboratory work environments and in working directly with patients and other employees. Initial Blood borne Pathogens Training is required, and a Blood borne Pathogens Refresher Training must be taken annually.
