Summary

The section of Epidemiology and Population Sciences is comprised of 20 faculty, 30+ staff and 15 postdocs. The Manager, Business Operations will manage the day-to-day business operations by performing financial, human resources, and grant related activities and programs, and participate in strategic planning for faculty/staff development and future growth of the section. 

Job Duties

  • Manages the daily operation of Epidemiology and Population Sciences section including, but not limited to, areas of human resources, compliance and financial management.
  • Works with the Section Chief in developing strategic goals and carrying out business plans to meet identified needs in the section.  
  • Manages support and professional level employees to include defining work responsibilities and prioritization, setting performance development plans and goals, and conducting annual performance evaluations.
  • Develops, manages, and controls the section's budgets; establishes financial and operational systems to monitor, control, and verify expenditures, and carry out financial analyses.
  • Establishes staffing plans, schedules, and productivity guidelines according to budget availability and section needs.
  • Ensures the ongoing review and development of process improvements to maximize business productivity. 
  • Manages human resources activities for the section, including hiring, terminations, salary, and disciplinary actions.
  • Reviews and approves all statements of accounts, payroll, human resources, and invoice actions. 
  • Manages pre-award and post-award activities.
  • Manages section’s annual retreat, monthly faculty group meeting and other section meetings.
  • Supervises assistant laboratory director in the management of the mouse lab.
  • Enforces policies and guidelines set by the department.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree. 
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree and two years of experience may also be considered.
  • Supervisory experience
  • Research Administration experience including pre and post-grant award.
  • Experience in academic medicine.
