The Manager, Academic Operations (Accreditation Manager) reports to the Designated Institutional Official and serves as a key member of the School of Medicine Dean's Office and Office of Graduate Medical Education. The Academic Operations and Accreditation Manager manages operations related to accreditation of the sponsoring institution (Baylor College of Medicine) and its approximately 160 Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited and Texas Medical Board (TMB) accredited residency and fellowship programs. The Manager plays a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining systems for ensuring the full and continued accreditation of the sponsoring institution and ACGME/TMB-accredited residency and clinical fellowship programs; serves as a liaison and consultant to departments and programs with regard to interpretation and execution of accreditation requirements and processes; manages systems for monitoring and tracking institutional and program policies, curriculum; coordinates program reviews, ACGME site visits, and institutional reviews; produces program review reports and institutional review document; manages the accreditation component of the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC); and monitors and tracks accreditation documents and correspondence between the ACGME, GMEC, TMB, and Designated Institutional Official (DIO).

Job Purpose

The Academic Operations and Accreditation Manager position requires a high level of independence and outstanding communication skills, and the work is primarily self-directed and initiated. Performance is evaluated on the ability to meet goals and objectives within a multitude of tight deadlines. Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with program administrators, program directors, and other colleagues both internal and external to BCM is key to success in this position. The individual is expected to establish and monitor internal controls and work plans to ensure that quality outcomes are achieved on time, and that areas of deficiency and concern are remedied immediately. The work is complex and requires analytical and problem-solving skills and a keen attention to detail. This position independently formulates innovative solutions and requires the ability to make sound decisions and recommendations quickly in a complex, politically charged environment.

Job Duties

  • Perform operational and project management activities related to accreditation processes and process improvement initiatives.
  • Manage primarily professional-level employees, to include defining work responsibilities and prioritization, setting performance development plans and goals, and conducting annual performance evaluations.
  • Assist with institutional accreditation compliance issues. Document, monitor, and evaluate compliance with accreditation standards by creating accreditation reports, implementing processes, and reviewing current state of standards.
  • Utilize project management techniques and tools to track and monitor timetables, action items/deliverables, and contingency plans.
  • Support the quarterly operational review of academic programs.
  • Will be responsible for the management of the budget of the GME office and will work   in tandem with the Supervisor of Business Operations and the DIO.
  • May make recommendations for program and process changes to senior leaders and implement changes.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Four years of relevant experience. Degrees in lieu of experience will not be accepted.
