Summary
The Center for Comparative Medicine (CCM) provides for the care, health and well-being of all research animals used in the pursuit of scientific achievement and excellence at Baylor College of Medicine. CCM provides the highest quality veterinary and animal care and acts as a resource for the faculty on veterinary and scientific issues relating to the use of laboratory animals. We are seeking a Maintenance Apprentice who will provide maintenance and scheduled preventative maintenance to support routine animal care and handling for a diverse group of small research animals according to established procedures and standards.
Job Duties
- Assists with scheduling, escorting and the oversight of outside contractors whom enter the college to perform technical tasks and installation of newly purchased equipment within CCM.
- Assists with maintenance tasks related to CCM's Green Slip maintenance reporting system.
- Assists with repairs related to submitted Green Slips and clears issues from the Green Slips system upon completion.
- Assists with routine preventative maintenance tasks with existing equipment on a regular basis.
- Assists with troubleshooting and repair of industrial washers, bottle fillers and bedding dispensers.
- Changes cage wash dump station filters on the first Friday of each month.
- Empties and cleans the dust collection socks related to the Detach clean bedding delivery system.
- Maintains an updated list of current Green Slips submitted by facility management for all CCM animal facilities.
- Checks and cleans autoclave filters on the 15th of each month.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of facility cage wash equipment and machinery preventative maintenance related to husbandry care support.
- Flexibility and possesses the capability of multi-tasking.
- Ability to maintain channels of communication; effectively provides verbal communication and exhibits good listening skills; provides concise, complete, and professional information to others.
