The Department of Neurology is seeking a qualified Licensed Vocational Nurse to join our Maxine Mesinger Multiple Sclerosis Clinic. This position will perform patient centric administrative/support care in an ambulatory setting. As mentioned above, this position will support the MS section, so having some knowledge or experience in general neurology  or MS would be ideal as well as some experience with prior authorizations.  We are looking for a team player, who is eager to join a fast paced group of providers and provide patient centric care.

Job Duties

  • Triages patient concerns through in-basket messages, MyChart messages, and phone calls. (20%).
  • Completes prior authorizations for specialty medications and procedures. (20%)
  • Communicates with patients and physicians regarding medication and treatment status (20%)
  • Enters orders for patient tests and obtains proper paperwork. (10%)
  • Schedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments. (5%)
  • Monitors incoming faxes. (5%)
  • Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities such as filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtain lab/x-ray
  • reports, hospital notes, and referral information. (as needed)
  • Manages and coordinates incoming patient referrals. (as needed)

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or G.E.D and graduated from an approved licensed practical nurse/vocational nurse (LPN/LVN).
  • Two years of relevant experience as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
  • Current license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the State of Texas Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • Basic Life Support certification (BLS).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some knowledge or experience in general neurology  or MS would be ideal.
  • Experience with prior authorizations.
